Cure Tooth Decay Review and Response to the National Institutes of Health Tooth Decay Information

The National Insitutes of Health has issued a PDF FACT SHEET about tooth decay. This article will expose what is fact and what is myth in their understanding of this biological disease. The file can be seen here: http://www.nih.gov/about/researchresultsforthepublic/ToothDecay.pdf

The first important thing to understand is that tooth cavities is not inherent in the human condition. Humans are designed to NOT have cavities. Yet, modern people in general have mistakenly violating certain biological and chemical rules (by eating the wrong foods) and thus we have become susceptible to "decay."

National Institutes of Health (NIH): "Tooth decay, known formally as “dental caries,” has been a serious health problem for all nations since time immemorial."

Me, author of Cure Tooth Decay: Beyond ten thousand years ago, cavities were rare to nonexistent. It is with the advent of farming that cavities started to appear. There are many burial grounds of more recent civilizations, whose skeletons show no evidence of cavities.

Weston Price Skulls No Tooth Cavities

Dr. Weston Price: " The Indian skulls that have been uncovered in many parts of the United States and Canada show a degree of excellence comparable to those seen in this Figure. These levels of excellence were the rule with them, not the exception as with us. The parents of these individuals knew what they and their children should eat!"

No Tooth Cavities Skulls
Dr. Weston Price "In many districts where I have made studies among primitive Indians and in many collections of their skulls close to a hundred per cent of the teeth have been free from dental caries or faulty position." (These photo's are from Dr. Price's Amazing book, Nutrition and Physical Degeneration and are the property of the Price-Pottenger Nutrition Foundation)

National Institutes of Health (NIH): "For centuries, tooth decay was thought to be the handiwork of an elusive and, in some cultures, “evil” tooth worm that gnawed holes into the white, highly mineralized enamel and left all those in its wake in pain. But superstition has yielded to science and its explanation that certain oral bacteria discharge mineral-eroding acid onto the enamel, starting the gradual process of decay. "

Cure Tooth Decay: The evil tooth worm might indeed be false. But we now have a new form of superstition, it is called a bacteria. Yet the idea that bacteria causes tooth decay is a superstition just like the belief that a tooth worm causes decay. Blaming bacteria is the same thing as blaming the tooth worm for our health problems. There is an indirect relationship between bacteria and tooth decay. Healthy bacteria in our digestive tract will help create vitamins necessary for healthy teeth. But bacteria's themselves, and their acidic waste products do not cause tooth cavities.

National Institutes of Health: " Over the last several decades, dental researchers have made tremendous progress in defining and learning to thwart the decay process."

Cure Tooth Decay: False. Dr. Weston Price published details on how to cure cavities in the 1930's in nearly every single respected dental journal. He also wrote the book, Nutrition and Physical Degeneration to detail his findings. This information can be found even in the Journal of the American Dental Association, such as the 1936 edition. Dr. Weston Price was able to create a program, using only diet, that was over 95% effective in halting tooth cavities, when closely followed.

National Institutes of Health: "Few people were spared the ordeal of losing teeth, often early in life."

Cure Tooth Decay: People are still loosing their teeth as they age, according to US government statistics. If there has been improvement over the past 50 years, it is minimal, or it is due to using different testing methodologies to claim that their is an improvement when none exists. In most ways, the diet in the US 50 years ago was better than it is today. For example, people used to eat butter. Now people are afraid to eat butter and eat dangerous vegetable oils instead.

National Insitutes of Health: "Until the 1970s, the cause of tooth decay continued to be a subject of debate, with some believing dietary deficiencies were the culprit and others focusing on oral bacteria."

Cure Tooth Decay: With over 90% of the population having had tooth cavities at least once, the focus on oral bacteria has not resulted in a cure.

National Insitutes of Health: "The NIH completed the first water fluoridation study that established the benefits of fluoride in fighting tooth decay."

Cure Tooth Decay: Fluoride is a highly poisonous substance. While laboratory tests may show that fluoride temporarily inhibits decay, over the long run, fluoride destroys our internal organs. Dr's Melvin Page, and Ralph Steinman have helped us see that it is our glands (adrenal, thyroid, parotid, pituitary) that control whether tooth decay is active. Yet fluoride destroys and erodes the health of our glands due to its poisonous nature. Several large scale studies show that fluoride doesn't work or even increases the prevalence of cavities in the long run.

National Insitutes of Health: "Tooth decay was considered an irreversible disease process — once a cavity started, the only remedy was to drill out the decay and fill the tooth with a restorative material. "

Cure Tooth Decay: The NIH is implying that tooth decay is now reversible?? But the only way to reverse tooth decay is with a change in diet. No other proven way exists. There are a few things like MI paste that can help halt decay. But again, these work on the principal of providing minerals to the teeth, not on killing the "evil spirit" bacteria.

National Insitutes of Health: "Tooth decay is no longer the national epidemic it was a few generations ago."

Cure Tooth Decay: With 90% or more of the population affected with tooth cavities at least one time, with children's cavities on the rise, with over 1 million fillings placed per day, and over 20 million root canals performed per year in the United States, I would hardly say that it is no longer a national epidemic. Tooth Decay is the #1 diseased state in the world.

National Insitutes of Health: "Without research progress in the fight against dental caries and periodontal diseases, there would be an additional 18.6 million Americans age 45 and older with none of their natural teeth."

Cure Tooth Decay: Modern hygiene approaches have likely saved many people's teeth. So I give 1 point for the NIH for not writing an inaccurate statement in that paragraph.

National Insitutes of Health: "Prevention is now the mantra in American dentistry."

Cure Tooth Decay: How many people out there have gone to the dentist and then never returned with a cavity because they have "prevented" it by the dental visit? Dentists take x-rays, drill holes in the teeth, put chemicals on the teeth, and remove the interior's of the teeth (root canals). The only thing that can help a little bit with cavities is tooth cleaning. In reality, dentists don't usually help prevent cavities because they, and their client's are unaware of the real cause of tooth decay.

National Insitutes of Health: "It is estimated that from 1979 through 1989 alone, the American public saved more than $39 billion in dental expenditures due to the power of prevention. Since the 1950s, the total federal investment in NIH oral health research has saved the American public at least $3 for every $1 invested."

Cure Tooth Decay: This is self-delusional grandeur. If the NIH explained people what healthy food is and how to use real foods to prevent cavities, then they could make this claim.

National Insitutes of Health: "Research is underway to develop powerful imaging tools that can detect the earliest demineralization of tooth enamel."

Cure Tooth Decay: Dr. Weston Price discovered the real cause and cure of tooth cavities over 70 years ago. We don't need more research to know how to prevent cavities. We simply need to abide by nature's principals of health. (Real foods with fat-soluble vitamins).

National Insitutes of Health: " The bacteria that cause tooth decay live in complex communities called biofilms. "

Cure Tooth Decay: We are bacteriasapiens. And the pounds of biofilms in our bodies are necessary for our survival. However we will have an unhealthy bacterial balance when we are exposed to medications, vaccines, and modern industrial foods.

National Insitutes of Health: "tooth decay, the scientific benefits have not always reached our nation’s poor and undeserved who bear a disproportionate burden of dental diseases. "

Cure Tooth Decay: Poor people in our country, in general, eat a poor diet. Many of the most life giving foods can be provided to everyone at a low cost. That is if our government and society had an interest in what was healthy. Until then, the poor and needy will suffer the most, buying junk and low priced convenience foods filled with genetically modified corn, soy and MSG. If we want poor people to be healthy, we would feed them well, or give farm land and training so they can feed themselves well.
