Bad Dentistry - Root Canals on Healthy Teeth
What follows below is a real case study submitted by a reader of this website. It describes how their health was harmed by bad dentistry.
I have not had this treatment yet because I find it extreme and probably damaging but this is what has been recommended immediately. 20 years ago I had a toothache in my eye tooth. The dentist told me I needed a root canal so I did that. Not much later the tooth turned dark. Above the root of that tooth a cyst has been forming and slowly growing for about 15 years or so. This cyst is now eating away at the bone. The dentist told me that it was necessary to remove the cyst by cutting the gum and scraping the cyst out. I said to him that I was concerned that the surrounding teeth might become traumatized and perhaps die and then what guarantee did I have that more cysts wouldn't form? He said that in fact, he recommended that the 2 adjacent teeth have root canals performed before the surgery because it was almost certain that the trauma of the procedure would hurt the teeth and it would be better to perform the root canals prior to the surgery. There is no guarantee that more cysts wouldn't form but that is not relevant, he affirmed, because it was imperative this cyst be removed before more damage is done. His recommendation was confirmed by an oral surgeon. I hesitate to go into such a treatment because it seems brutal and opens the way for more problems. This is not a case of bad dentistry, I guess because it seems the standard procedure, which I think is barbaric, quite frankly. I am currently looking for alternative treatments for this cyst, if you know of any, please let me know. Thank you for opening this subject so candidly. It is much needed. For most of us facing dental procedures, there are no alternatives.

Root canals should be reserved for cases where they are absolutely needed. Not for no reason at all.
I decided to create an area on my website to focus on bad dentistry. Many people have kept quiet about the mistreatment of their teeth by dentists. I do not encourage people to avoid dentists, but in order to get people to go to the dentist, the dentist must provide excellent care. Unfortunately most do not. This list can help you find a good dentist.
Modern dentistry, in general, damages our teeth. It drills away too much healthy tooth structure. It places toxic materials in our mouths, and recommends treatments that don't last over the long term. Moving beyond bad dentistry means using the book, Cure Tooth Decay, to help you remineralize your cavities naturally.
You can submit a story about how dentistry has negatively harmed your life by sending an e-mail to: firstname.lastname@example.org
Make sure to include the name you want posted on your testimonial, a little bit about yourself, and how you were harmed by bad dentistry. You do not need to remain silent about the harm done to your mouth. Because I do not want to be in the middle of any type of dispute I will not post the name of the bad dentist.
